. Discover the Camargue and its specific animals: flamingos, bulls, horses. The ponds mix with the land or the opposite, the human being cultivates rice, salt and vines. A city by the sea symbolizes this region: the Saintes Maries de la mer and its fortified romanesque church, a place of christian pilgrimage on the way to Santiago de Compostela. Pilgrims come to venerate the relics of the St Marys (Mary Jacobea: aunt of Jesus and Mary, Salme: mother of the apostles James and John). The gypsy community gathers there every year to celebrate the relics of their patron Saint Sara. This village is considered as one of the oldest christian cult in the west.
