Arles

Arles, a city classified as a UNESCO world heritage site for its ancient monuments, built on the banks of the Rhône, Arles is known for its ferias in april or september, its traditional festivals.

PROGRAMME

Visit the arenas, an old roman amphitheatre known for its gladiator and bull shows. About 21,000 spectators could be welcomed at the end of the 1st century, the 7th largest amphitheatre in the roman empire, it is one of the best preserved to date. Passage through the ancient theatre, oh which we have preserved 2 marble columns. From the 17th century onwards, archaeological finds were discovered there, including the famous Vénus d‘Arles, which is now in the Louvre museum in Paris.

Then, we will continue our visit to discover the cryptoportics and visit the ancient forum that disappeared thanks to the underground galleries (located under the former imperial palace). Moreover, classified as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1981, the Constantine thermal baths will give us access to the comfort of urban life of roman civilization, one of the most visited places by the public. Having had both a hygienic and a social role, the population participated in sports activities and bathing rituals ensuring personal hygiene in the Constantine thermal baths.

Discover the romanesque-gothic cathedral of St Trôphime and its many holy relics, departure of the famous way of Santiago de Compostela, visit of the gardens of the famous dutch expressionist painter Vincent van Gogh, who painted more than 200 canvases there between 1888 and 1890.
