This city has been a privileged place for the local aristocracy which has built many Italian and Parisian private mansions such as the famous Hôtel de Peyronetti or the Hôtel Maurel de Pontèves. Discover other majestic residences where counts and marquises lived many years ago such as the Hôtel de Caumont, the Hôtel Boyer d‘Éguilles or Hôtel d‘Albertas. Thanks to archbishop Michel Mazarin, the idea of a bold project was born and as a result sumptuous houses were built in a district that would later bear his name. Let yourself be convinced by the original and extraordinary architecture.
City of the famous
impressionist painter Cézanne. In the footsteps of his life, discover the many
places, streets and landscapes, that have marked his point of view and his
works. Guided tour of the Cours Mirabeau which allows you with a length of 440m
and a width of 42m to walk under the plane trees between the sumptuous Mazarin
district and the old commercial city. Then the visit will continue to the
discovery of the place de l‘Hôtel de ville where we will of course find the
town hall, but also a fountain surmounted by a roman column and the grain hall.
Moreover, we will discover the cathedral of St Sauveur with its multiple architectural
styles from different periods and its romanesque cloister. According to legend,
this cathedral was even built on the traces of a roman temple dedicated to
Apollo.
After having made this journey through the time, we will see the pavilion of Vendôme, an illustrious heritage of the Great Century, and its idyllic french garden. Today, the pavilion will present you a museum of sites and fine arts. Finally we will end the visit with a walk in the Mazarin district. Stroll through this district as the bourgeois did at the 17th century and enter a world of luxury.
